FTP Client
In order to accomplish file transfer you need to get connected to one of the FTP clients - programs that allow you to transfer files from one computer to another. Some FTP clients work only with the space you are connected to, but in most cases it is quite enough for your website update. After you have downloaded FTP client to your computer and set up an account with hosting provider which supports FTP access option you my start working with your files.
After you have opened your FTP Client you are offered to fill in several fields:
“Profile Name” - this is a name you are going to give to your site.
“Host Name”/”Address” - this field should contain the name of the server where your web page is hosted. If you don’t know or remember it ask your hosting provider.
“User ID” and “Password” - these are simply a username and a password you entered when you subscribed to hosting service. You may save your password in order not to type it again each time you want to log in.
After you have provided all necessary information and filled out the fields just click “OK” button and you will get connected to the server. If the connection is completed successfully the files will appear on the right side of your screen.
How To Use FTP
When you are already connected to the FTP client everything is ready to start file transfer. The left side of the screen shows the files that are stored on your computer and the right side shows files on the hosting server. Choose the necessary file from the right and the folder you need to transfer this file to from the left. Then double click on the very file you are going to send or make use of special arrow that points to the hosting server storage. Apart from transferring files you can also view, rename, delete or create any file or folder you want to.
After you have implemented all tasks successfully you can go to your hosting provider, log in and see how your website looks. If everything is OK you will get a working website created on your own!
