Image Optimization for Fast Website Loading
There is always a struggle between quality of the photo placed on the website and its size. Being of high quality the picture also appears to be of big file size and thus requires a lot of time to load, which in its turn causes problems with site viewing. As a rule, web surfers don’t like to wait too long so they may just click away and your website will lose visitors. So what are web masters to do? This is where photo optimization comes to the rescue helping you to avoid such problems.
Your computer monitor shows pictures at 72 dots per inch so the first thing to do is to adjust the image to this resolution. If the picture is too large it can be divided into several pieces - small files that will load one by one and put together on the site. Also a lot of graphic software includes the function of saving pictures for the web which automatically saves the file in proper size without influencing the quality. Another way to speed up image loading time is to use GIF or PNG file formats. In this case the picture will load by degrees - appearing at first as a blurry vision becoming then a clear image.
It is important to set the width and height of a picture you want to insert in the tag of HTML code. Thus you will let the web browser continue loading your web page while the graphics is being downloaded. In case you don’t set the size parameters your browser will have to wait until all the pictures are loaded and only then will open the rest of the page, which takes time and is not convenient.
Another reason of long images loading time is the exaggeration of their quantity. The more pictures you use within your website the longer it will take for the pages to open, and such pending won’t work in favor of your site. So think over your web page design and try to use fewer images to fasten loading time and prevent the visitors from impatient waiting.
If you still want your visitors to see the original size and quality of your images you may do the following. Paste a small example of the photo on your web page with a link which leads to its larger version with higher resolution. Thus a big high quality image will open separately in another window and your visitors will enjoy it.
These are simple suggestions for picture optimization which will help you to fasten your website loading saving the quality of the attached images. Taking them into account you will allow your visitors to view your full-fledged website without loading problems.

I ll be following these steps for my future websites rather I had made all required changes for my present sites…thank you very much for such a nice post.
Must say a nice post but what missing is “alt tag” info. Its one the most imp aspect of image optimization. It works as an alternative text wen image doesn’t load for some reason. also it tells search engines what the image is about. and wen a link is embedded in image, its ‘alt tag’ works as an anchor text.
